I bought this to use as a component shelf. I had mounted a 42" plasma on an articulated arm in a corner at my parents home, and needed something for the other hardware. A typical corner piece wouldn't fit because of dimensional clearances there in front of a long, low hearth. This works. The cable box is on top, and the middle shelf holds the once-state-of-the-art VCR with the DVD player on top - but just barely. Mom plans a trip to Hobby Lobby for some baskets for the bottom shelf, to be used as DVD drawers one may peruse from the couch.
It assembled quickly and easily, and felt solid when done. The product description read "cherry", and the box read "cherry", but the piece I received is definitely much closer to walnut - darker than pictured, with very little red tone. A lot of the stability comes from a mid-rail under the top for width from side to side, and centered for depth. It comes down 3 1/4" under the top, so if one intends to use the full depth of the middle, it won't be for the full heighth. That's a more attractive configuration for an end table visible on both front and back, and all edges are finished to be used that way. There are little plastic caps to cover those "cam" fasteners, which you can see if you're looking for them, but don't stand out. The trimming of the laminate corners is just OK, but I wasn't expecting craftsmanship here. All-in-all, I'm happy.
