Great for the priceFeb 13, 2010
By Mindy Remember when buying this product that you are spending much less than what you would pay for a higher end product. I bought this for my three year old and so far so good. Didn't take too long to put together if you know how to follow direction. I did it by myself in about 3 hours. Bed seems very sturdy. My only complaint is that the drawers are VERY snug. Almost difficult to pull out. Fortunately I use them to store things that my son doesn't need access too. He cannot open the drawers by himself. He is a tough 3 year old and they fit too snug for him to pull out. The bed looks really nice and a big perk is the space saving drawers and the fact that you don't need a box spring for the mattress. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a child and intends on the child taking the bed with them when they move out. I do not recommend using this bed for a guest room that adults would be sleeping in.

Great bed and price!Nov 26, 2010
By SilentB I'm really happy with this bed. Although my sister and I spent more than three hours to put it together but the outcome is great and very pretty. The shipping, my oh my, I was expecting my package two weeks after purchase but it came six days later on a holiday! That's why I give it a five! As for the quality I have no issues about it, what can you expect more of chipped wood? It will always be heavy and chippy, that's why it's cheap. I'm a heavy built person so is my mattress but the bed is still holding itself, strong and sturdy. The only con that I have to say is that Southshore should have labeled the tiny parts and screws and not mix them together, we had a boiling moment to figure out the pieces. An advice for the drawers, do not use an electric drill to match the holes or the drawers wont fit right in the bed box. The pegs are made of plastic so use something flat and hard to push the parts while screwing it, in that way the screw will fit in the holes that were pre-drilled by SS. So for those who wants a good bed, good price and free shipping go ahead and buy this one. Just ask an experienced carpenter if you don't want to go through the maze of making a drawer (sadly we didn't do it but we don't regret anything coz we had fun). I wish I could attach a picture to show everybody how great it looks, I'm on the process of buying the matching headboard to finally finish my room. I hope this review is helpful. ^_^

Wonderful Bedframe!Oct 04, 2010

I'm a college student & I needed to get a bedframe that would have 3 drawers so I wouldn't need a ginormous clothes drawer to take up space in my shared bedroom in my apartment. The package for the bedframe is ridiculously heavy so if you're a small frail girl (like myself), get a dolly to push it. I'd recommend wearing some long jeans when building the bedframe & getting some power tools to make the building process go by twice as fast.
The most time consuming part of building the bedframe are the drawers. This bed is really sturdy, the materials are great, it's a beautiful bedframe, very stylish, & it's perfect for my PJs, undergarments, & random school supplies/laptop.
The only reason why I gave this bedframe 4 stars instead of 5 stars (even though this bedframe is incredibly affordable) is because the bottom of the drawers is made of flimsy cardboard pieces that you hammer 6 nails to the drawer's frame. Although it seems that the nails will hold up to whatever it is you need to put in there, the material at the bottom (flimsy cardboard) is kind of iffy. I'm pretty sure if you dropped a sharp object on top of the flimsy cardboard, you'd rip through the bottom. But since the drawer is meant for clothes or small toys, you should be okay. Would be better if they gave you a nice solid piece of wood instead though.
This bedframe fits my twin mattress perfectly. You do NOT need a spring box! Took me 4 hours to build this (I had trouble with the drawers, was slightly confused, it was 2 am, & I did not have any power tools). Everything is generally pretty easy to understand & I'm not kidding when I'm telling you to invest in a power tool because there are over 50 screws you need to screw...so power tool or you'll waste your time putting together a bed that could probably be assembled in 2 hours.

Pretty good bed for the priceAug 10, 2009

I got this Twin Bed two weeks ago for my son. It took about hour and a half to assemble it and is pretty straight forward. Drawers fit pretty nicely as well. This bed is pretty good for its price.

Much flimsier than IKEA furnitureJan 31, 2011
By A concerned citizen Assembly of this item is difficult because the hardware is extremely cheap compared to other particleboard furniture. The ONLY plus to this bed for me was price (and I see now the price has gone up).
So far this item is functional, but I am going to avoid buying this brand in the future. I'm no stranger to particleboard furniture with cardboard parts, but I was shocked at the hardware included with this bed. The hardware does not include the kind of locking cams that Sauder and IKEA furniture have; instead there are things that look like plastic drywall anchors, and you put a screw into the SIDE of it, perpendicular, to hold the drawer corners together. It is tricky to get right and it doesn't look stable to me. Also, to attach the (cardboard) drawer bottoms to the drawer backs, you have to nail into the edge of a very thin piece of particleboard, and if you don't get it just right you'll chip out the back of the drawer and the nail won't hold. This isn't assembly; it's construction. I am pretty handy, and it took me two hours to put this bed together.
Also, the veneer on the particleboard is more fragile than comparable Sauder or IKEA furniture.
I gave this three stars because customer service was helpful (three pieces came cracked originally) and because I paid so little for this bed I hate to complain. But if could I do this over again, I would buy something different.
