Jet Cooker heats and sounds like a (dwarf) jet engineJun 29, 2009
By Over 50 I have not used this cooker with a fish cooker sized-pot yet. It performs well in heating a 1.5 quart cast iron french fry cooker and for wok seasoning and wok cooking; having cooked fries, seasoned one wok, used for Asian meals numerous times. Obvious cons are the inefficiency when cooking in small pots (lowering heat causes loss of efficient blue flame and inefficient yellow flame existence), and the venturi produces a constant jet-like sound louder than an idle V8 engine. I have not yet installed a fuel monitoring device on the supply line to estimate the operating cost. Stainless steel hose is wonderful, ignore the finish burned off during operation, ignore the jet-sound, and enjoy cooking. 170,000+ BTU's rocks for Asian cooking. Faster than you can say stir-fry, you can....

The Bayou Classic SP-1 Jet Burner is a great buy!Jul 29, 2004

My Cajun Catering Company based in Orlando Florida uses the SP-1 for our crawfish festivals in conjunction with the 100-qt. Bayou Classic Fryer/Steamer Pots. We put these burners through the ringer and they keep holding up. They put out approx. 185,000 BTU and will bring a 100-qt. pot of water to boil in about 18 - 23 minutes. You have to be careful hooking up the hose to make sure you have no leaks. If you follow instructions, you will have no worries. Make sure you wash off and dry between uses to prevent corrosion. Very stable platform for cooking with the larger pots. Has a flame retarder plate that swings over the blow-torch type flame and diffuses it for lower cooking temperatures.

Super StoveDec 02, 2009
By James Strutz Very simple, and very hot stove. I use it for group camping on river float trips, and find it a bit bulky, but the convenient is worth it. To be able to quickly boil a LARGE pot of stew, potatoes, spaghetti and anything else while tripping makes camping great.

You got to get one of theseJun 14, 2009

I first saw this in LA and I had to get one. And so far this is the best burner I have owned. The braided metal hose is the best. For large boils it is the only way to go. I am thinking of brewing beer again - it is that good.

Great outdoor propane cooker for homebrewingJan 01, 2011
By mckelly33 We bought this jet cooker to use for making our own beer. The price was reasonable, it had a flat cooking surface that would fit various size kettles (which some of the turkey fryer kits didn't appear to have), and it had a high BTU output. We have been very pleased with it. It has some serious output, and when turned up high, really does sound like a jet ready to take off. Despite the simple design and high potential output, the burner can be adjusted pretty well using the valve on the gas flow regulator. The cooker itself is lightweight and I like the simple design (which can still easily hold a large amount of weight (6+ gallons of wort in a stainless steel kettle). Remember to run the burner for a bit at high output to burn off some of the paint before putting a nicer pot on it - the paint will turn to ash and leave deposits on your cookware.
